American DadStraightness/Heterosexuality
Christianity Whiteness Able-bodiedness Male Property Holder Now after reading an article from Adeline Koh. Who gives us the SCWAMP ideology and actually breaks it down for us using the very famous and recent popular movie twilight i decided to try to match her or if i can be so blunt, maybe one-up her. I used the animated TV show called American Dad to do m y analyzation. For those who do not know the show, briefly American Dad is an American adult animated sitcom created by Seth MacFarlane. with vigorous punts and jokes aimed at all nationalities and cultures. The show has 5 main characters that the story line is circled around. Stan who is the father is an 40 year old white man who works for the CIA in Langley Fall Virginia and wears nothing but a blue suit. Francine is his dumb blonde (stereotype; yes I know but the author wanted to keep it alive and trust me he does. lol) by price. WHAT i mean is that she is actually brunette but her husband insists for her to keep her hair colored blonde. Francine is a stay at home mom and always wears a pink dress and pink heels to match. Haley is their oldest child who is a liberal hippie and can not stand the fact that her father works for the American Government, which in her eyes is corrupt. To the stereotype of a hippie she smokes weed and wears a colorful bandana and a peace sign on her shirt with baggy jeans and sandals. Steve is the only boy who ironically name begins with an "S", due to the fact he is the only boy so there for he has to be names after his father. Steve is a "nerd" and to that stereotype he can never get any female attention. He is also always trying to receive approval from his father because he is not athletic. Roger is their alien that has moved in with them when Stan rescued him from the CIA. They look and care for him as a pet. It connects directly with SCWAMP from beginning to end. Now let me show you how and get deeper with it. The show hit the SCWAMP ideology on point. it's sad but its reality. Straightness/heterosexuality. Stan and Francine are married and are heterosexual. Stan is a homophobic and in one episode actually teaches his son that being gay is wrong. Haley is in a heterosexual relationship as well and Steve is always looking for a females attention. Christianity The whole family are Christians. They proudly go to church and as the show comes on there is a pictures of Jesus being displayed as they sing the theme song around it. Stan is not open to another religion. The show typically makes awful religous jokes often from christianity. Whiteness EVERY main character in the show is white. The ONLY black character in the show is Steve's school principal. So i guess they thought it will accommodate the equality if they gave the only black character some type of power or authority role. In a sense this would have worked if not ever time you see the Principal he's not high or talking about his money problems, or yelling at the students, or to make things worse; talking about his past which he was incarcerated. They typically make racist show against blacks only. Steve does have an Asian friend name Toshi who he hangs out with, but he does not speak any English. Even though he understands it very well when the friends are in dialogue. Toshi responds only in Chinese, which Stan and Steve typically make fun of. Able-bodiedness Steve has a an overweight friend who name is Barry, who is not in the main cast. Barry is very slow because his parents have him on medication that makes him talk slower than the other cast and act as though common sense was a mystery. The show allows Stan and Francine along with their kids appear to be in perfect shape. Stan is buff and muscular and his wife Francine and kids are very petite. Male Stan always throws around that he is the man and is always right. HE has a huge ego which he is not scared to show or throw around. Francine is very submissive to her husband. She does what he says when he says it. She is the stay at home mom. So if the show comes on and its morning she is fixing plates or cooking and always serves her husband first then her son. Stan is the breadwinner of the family who is very arrogant and sexist. He looks and does take his wife and daughter for granted on numerous episodes. Property Holder To sum it all up, The family lives in a 4 story house.
